Attic Insulation
Attic spray foam insulation plugs the gaps at the top of the house and adds a layer that holds heat where people live. In an older Kitchener home with a cold bedroom, the attic is the first place we look.
View Attic InsulationSealing the rim joist closes off the wooden band resting on your foundation, a spot that leaks more air than almost anywhere else downstairs. It is a short job that makes a basement far less drafty.
Closed cell foam goes into every joist bay. It bonds to the band, the sill and the top of the concrete, so the whole edge is sealed and insulated in one pass.
The sill sits on top of the concrete, and in older homes the joint between them is rarely sealed. Wind pushes cold air through that joint and into the joist bays. On a cold day you can feel it with the back of your hand.
Once sprayed, rim joist spray foam insulation fills that joint completely. Batts cut to fit each bay block a little of the cold, but air flows right around them.
Damp basement air reaches the cold band behind a batt and turns into frost or water. Over a few winters, that moisture stains the wood and can grow mould. Pulling the batts often shows dark wood and dead bugs behind them.
Closed cell foam keeps room air off the cold wood, so condensation has nowhere to form.
Rim joist spray foam insulation is one of the best values in a house. Most homes take less than a day, and it can be done from the floor in an open basement or through a ceiling opening in a finished one.
We often pair it with basement spray foam insulation on the walls, since the rig is already running.
Rim joists are priced with basement work, at about $3 to $5.50 per foot. Because the area is small, many rim-only jobs land near our $1,500 minimum.
Call (226) 407-7680 and we will check your rim joists and send a written rim joist spray foam insulation quote. Our Kitchener home page lists every other service we offer.

Foam sprayed into open stud bays fills them from edge to edge and stops the drafts older walls let through. The best time to do it is when the plaster or drywall is already off.

Foam on the walls and band joist of a crawl space keeps cold and damp out from under the house. Floors above it warm up, and water lines down there stop freezing.

Kitchener spray foam insulation removal starts where a bad install left off, with foam that went on wrong and has started to shrink, crack or smell. We cut it back to clean wood so new foam can go on properly.
