Attic Insulation
Attic spray foam insulation plugs the gaps at the top of the house and adds a layer that holds heat where people live. In an older Kitchener home with a cold bedroom, the attic is the first place we look.
View Attic InsulationKnee wall spray foam insulation seals the short walls and sloped ceilings of an upstairs room tucked under the roof. It fixes the second floor that freezes in winter and bakes in summer.
We foam the knee walls, the floor behind them and the sloped ceiling so the whole upper room sits inside one continuous layer. The written quote lists each surface, the foam type and the inches.
The St. Mary's wartime houses, and many older homes downtown, have steep roofs with little or no eave overhang. Upstairs rooms sit right under the roof, with short knee walls and sloped ceilings. There is very little depth in those slopes, and whatever was put in years ago has often slumped or gone missing.
In a shallow slope, knee wall spray foam insulation fits the most R-value into the least depth. Closed cell does there what thick batts cannot.
Behind each knee wall is a strip of floor sitting over the heated room below. If that strip is open to the cold space, warm air slides under the knee wall and out through the roof. That is why sealing only the knee wall often falls short.
We seal the floor joists behind the wall, or we move the foam up to the roof slope so the space behind the knee wall becomes warm.
Most knee wall spaces are reached through a small door or a hatch we cut and trim. We bring short hoses and compact gear for tight spots, and we cover the room before starting. Wiring, old vent chutes and any loose boards in the space get checked before the first pass.
Knee walls and sloped ceilings are priced like attic work, at about $2.50 to $4.50 a square foot for open cell and $3.50 to $7 for closed cell. Tight access adds time, and the quote shows it.

Basement spray foam insulation grips concrete and block and keeps cold, damp air away from the wall. A chilly basement becomes a room people actually use in winter.

Foam sprayed into open stud bays fills them from edge to edge and stops the drafts older walls let through. The best time to do it is when the plaster or drywall is already off.

Sealing the rim joist closes off the wooden band resting on your foundation, a spot that leaks more air than almost anywhere else downstairs. It is a short job that makes a basement far less drafty.

Foam on the walls and band joist of a crawl space keeps cold and damp out from under the house. Floors above it warm up, and water lines down there stop freezing.

Foam on the roof deck and walls lowers heating costs in offices, shops, warehouses and industrial units. One pass both insulates the building and seals its air leaks.

Kitchener spray foam insulation removal starts where a bad install left off, with foam that went on wrong and has started to shrink, crack or smell. We cut it back to clean wood so new foam can go on properly.
